Red Ribbon Week

Celebrate RED RIBBON WEEK! from October 24-October 28, 2016

HOW DID IT START? While working undercover in Mexico in 1985 to gather information of drug traffickers, DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena lost his life. His friends and neighbors started a club and wore red ribbons and pledged to be drug free. In 1988, U.S. Congress proclaimed Red Ribbon Week. Studies show that young people who learn to say no to drugs are less likely to be involved with crime, delinquency, and dangerous behaviors. Blooming Prairie Elementary School recognizes the Red Ribbon Campaign as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs.
